SILENCE IS DEATH FOR "DER SPIEGEL"

Paninn­guaq, the young woman who when being a girl was so tired from life that she jumped into icy water of two degrees Celsius, is 25 years now. She is a single mother and a dry alcoholic. She lives in Nuk, Greenlands capital. Having 16.000 inhabitants Nuk is the biggest town of this huge island being situated in the worlds most northern part. There is not much Greenland is known for one, there are huskies, permanent ice, an old culture. But there is one of the world’s highest amounts of suicides and what makes the fact really dramatics: this is true for the young ones between the age of 14 and 29. Why are they so desparate? An attempt to find some reasons.
